I ran across Cookie a while back, and was immediately impressed with his humour, texture and sense of adventure – both in his work and play. He’s done some impressive hikes; such as the Continental Divide and now he’s onto the Swiss Alps. Check out the maps he makes!

The Mountain Label is the design studio of Christopher Bettig, a French / American artist living and working in Los Angeles who focuses on appreciating geometry and natural forms in his works, be it art exhibitions or corporate work. Chris is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA degree in painting, but finds himself spending a lot of time developing products, graphics and installations for diverse clientele.

I just stumbled upon a studio visit at The Mountain Label, by Grain Edit – very nice inside look at a very nice looking studio. I wannit.

Spied many times within the pages of one of my fave magazines; Monocle, Gaku Nakagawa has me a little obsessed with line weight right now.

He makes it look so good – like he uses his vector pen tool as if it were a brush. Mesmerizing.

Born in the temple “Zuisenji”, Kyoto in 1966. He studied Buddhist art at a university and worked as a copywriter after graduation. From 1996 he started to work as illustrator and priest. He works with pamphlet of government and municipal offices and a temple, books, a magazine, etc.

Mr.Sleeep used to hang out constantly at Café Wim, where I worked many many years ago. He even worked there for a short while.

Drove me nuts when he hung out, drove me more nuts when he worked there. But he always had talent and skills with pens and paper, and knowing music. He’s like a music guru. Wonder what will be super cool next year? – ask him, I bet he knows.

He’s honed his skills even more over the years; his colours and lines are mesmerizing and inspiring. Check him out!

I’ve been eyeing Raymond Biesinger’s ilustrations in Monocle for a while now – nice to see he’s a fellow canuck! Busy guy. Seems he also runs a printing press/publishing house, and is in a rock band.

After surfing through his site, I went straight on through to his ETSY shop and got myself two of his books. Lovely little square jobs filled with battered, weathered and worn black and white goodies.

As I started writing this post, and looking through Adrian Johnson’s site, I realized I had already blogged about his work on the “Raise Them On Robinson’s” animated ads, although I had failed then to name him as the artist.

Seems to me, that back then, I couldn’t find out more about who had worked on them other than the ad agency. Isn’t that often the case?

What had sent me to Adrian’s site this time, was his work in Monocle. Again; I had already blogged about him without realizing it, in a post about Monocle. What the hell is wrong with me?

I finally made it to the man himself, and what a treasure his site is.
I might considering dropping white, and adopting eggshell. Sure looks nice.

Old fave Michael Gillette drew every single line of this animated promo for the Beastie Boys’ To the 5 Boroughs album.

As an added bonus – he’s begun blogging again. After discovering his blog in October 2007, and then losing track of it after January 2008, I see it’s been stocked with a bevy of illustrations. Not least his excellent set of James Bond book covers. Man, I have a weakness for Bond covers…

Nice work. Nice tunes.
