I ran across Cookie a while back, and was immediately impressed with his humour, texture and sense of adventure – both in his work and play. He’s done some impressive hikes; such as the Continental Divide and now he’s onto the Swiss Alps. Check out the maps he makes!
Check it out – I was looking for some info on Bruce Parry after seeing one of his shows on tv – and stumbled upon this while surfing through Mr. Parry’s own site.
Many more facts about climate change to take into consideration. What the hell are we doing?
My ol’ pal, Jube, sent me this link to a Talking Heads video, “This Must Be The Place”. Nice to come in to the office and find a little tidbit of the past waiting for me.
I came across this a while ago, but never tried it.
Turns out you can download a bunch of your flickr photos, tweek some settings, add some music, and boom- you have a video with some freaky effects and transitions.
It’s not really my cup of tea, but it was fun to play with, getting some drawings in there, and see them presented in a different way.
It’s not even monday – but what the heck.
Old fave Michael Gillette drew every single line of this animated promo for the Beastie Boys’ To the 5 Boroughs album.
As an added bonus – he’s begun blogging again. After discovering his blog in October 2007, and then losing track of it after January 2008, I see it’s been stocked with a bevy of illustrations. Not least his excellent set of James Bond book covers. Man, I have a weakness for Bond covers…
I posted about cycling to work, and uploaded a video to YouTube a while ago – 10 seconds into the clip you’ll see the “before” shot of the photo pictured above, “live”:
That route was one that was a little illegal, I have to say; but not anymore.
At the beginning of September, the new cycling / walk path combo was opened to the public. (Well- it was open all along, but a bit of a mess during construction.)
The Fear
There was a little controversy about opening this path for cyclists. Old folks, dog walkers and parents of small children all worried about the sudden onslaught of cycle racers, apparently.
The Result
What happened was a route that was routinely used by leisurely cyclists, continued to be used by leisurely cyclists. The only difference is now cyclists are cardonned to one side, and pedestrians to another. On paper anyways, and in street paint, too – but in practice; it is business as usual. Cyclists and pedestrians figured out how to co-exist a long time ago. Leisurely this side of the lake – speedy commute on the other side of the lake – along the road, with the rest of the traffic. Not a nice ride, if you ask me.
The “new” path IS prettier, more organized.. and the small pebbles strewn on the pedestrian side are quite the nice audible addition to the route. But it is funny how the government is really just making something that was being used illegally, without problems; legal. Good for them, really, for catching up with the people.
Good for me too. Now I can ride with a more clear conscience.
Alright, alright… I can’t just give up this Monday Movies blogging. I admit it. I abstained for all of 6 hours, and here I am again…
This time up- it’s a video from those intellectually astute and whacky They Might Be Giants. Damn they have catchy tunes, but I never remember the words.
